Both sliding axle and hydraulic tail trailers make it easy to load equipment and cargo with a lower load angle . A sliding axle trailer allows the trailer suspension to hydraulically move forward so the trailer has a better load angle when loading and unloading. A hydraulic tail trailer uses hydraulics to extend a main ramp and approach ramp to obtain a lower load angle. Heavy-duty construction or agricultural equipment and tractors are often transported on a sliding axle or hydraulic tail trailer due to its low load angle and the ability to handle substantial weight. Shipping containers are also often hauled on sliding axle trailers for easier loading and unloading. What is a hydraulic tail trailer?
A hydraulic tail trailer, as the name indicates, uses hydraulics to assist the operator when loading and unloading equipment and cargo on ramps at the rear of the trailer. For heavy-duty applications, the ramps that unfold at the rear of a trailer can be quite heavy for one person to manage. Hydraulics are a great alternative. The ramps at the rear (or “tail”) of the trailer are powered to make extension and retraction easy and to keep the operator safe.
Hydraulic tail trailers are available in a number of different configurations. Some have ramps that fold on hinges just once, while others have a double-hinged design to allow for longer ramps and a smaller approach angle. The double-hinged tails require more powerful hydraulics to operate but can accommodate cargo with very low clearance.
